Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about PixelChallenge — how it works, how scoring works, and how to compete.

What is PixelChallenge? +
PixelChallenge is a free browser-based platform where you learn and practice pixel art by recreating existing pixel art pieces. Play solo or compete against another player in real-time 1v1 matches.
How does it work? +
Browse the gallery, pick a pixel art piece, then recreate it pixel by pixel using the built-in canvas editor. Submit when done — PixelChallenge scores your recreation based on how accurately each pixel matches the original.
How does the 1v1 competition work? +
Create a room and share the code with a friend. Both players recreate the same pixel art simultaneously. When both submit, the player with the higher accuracy score wins. No account required — just enter a display name.
Is PixelChallenge free? +
Yes. Completely free, no subscription, no hidden costs.
Do I need an account to play? +
No. You can play solo challenges and 1v1 battles as a guest with just a display name. An account is only needed to upload pixel art or track your scores.
How is the accuracy score calculated? +
PixelChallenge compares each pixel in your drawing to the original. Score is a percentage based on how many pixels match exactly — both color and position matter.
Can I upload my own pixel art? +
Yes. Registered users can upload pixel art to the public gallery so other players can use it as a challenge.
What makes PixelChallenge different from tools like Aseprite or Piskel? +
Those are editors — you create from scratch. PixelChallenge is a practice platform: you sharpen skills by recreating art with precision scoring and real-time competition. Think of it as a game for getting better at pixel art.
